The Interspinous Process Decompression (IPD®)
Procedure represents a significant breakthrough in the treatment of degenerative lumbar
spinal stenosis (DLSS). Without the X-STOPPK ® implant, the symptoms can be temporarily relieved by sitting, resting or by leaning forward as the bending of your back naturally opens up the space of your spinal canal.
The device has been designed to remain safely and permanently in place without attaching to the bone or soft structures in your back. With the X-STOPPK ® IPD® procedure there is no removal of bone or soft tissue. The X-STOPPK ® implant is not positioned close to nerves or the spinal cord, but rather behind the spinal cord between the bony structures called the spinous processes. ![]() The procedure will be performed in the operating
room at the hospital. Using general or local anaesthesia
and with the help of x-ray guidance, the X-STOPPK ® implant is inserted
through a small incision in the skin of your back.
You will be placed on your side or on your belly during
the procedure so that your spine is bent when the
X-STOPPK ® implant is inserted. The procedure to insert the X-STOPPK ® implant typically lasts 45 minutes. The X-STOPPK ® IPD® Procedure may have several advantages over conventional decompression surgeries:
